Jade Wilcox Reflects on the NAFD AGM 2025: A Weekend of Reflection, Insight, and Recognition

Visiting the National Association of Funeral Directors Conference this year was both a rewarding and refreshing experience.

Friday was a full programme, beginning with the AGM. The evening brought a welcome change of pace with a variety showcases, including a particularly memorable magician’s act. Barry Pritchard and Adam Masters found themselves very much “under the spotlight” as they were put to the test – to the great amusement of everyone in the room.
NAFD AGM AI Cats
Saturday offered a day of education and forward-thinking discussion. Ecclesiastical Planning shared the breadth of their support for funeral directors and the great work they continue to do in the community. Dan Bradley of Smash Cat gave a thought provoking session on AI. The session also covered the complexities of death certification, with an exceptionally informative overview, followed by an important discussion on the Ashes Register. This initiative promises to provide much-needed touchpoints for bereaved families, aligning closely with themes raised in John Adams’ book Don’t Tell the Children. Certainly, knowing where ashes have been scattered is a form of comfort that should not be underestimated.

The final teaching session of the day focused on keeping digital marketing strategies fresh and relevant in a fast-moving world. From there, the afternoon concluded with the Student Awards Ceremony – congratulations to all the graduates on their achievements.
The evening closed with the President’s Banquet, where we celebrated Darryl Smith and wished him every success for his upcoming year in office.

Overall, the conference was a valuable blend of connection, learning, and celebration. A big thank you to everyone involved in making it such a success – and yes, this piece was written with a little help from AI. (and perhaps a kitten or two).
